Los Altos is located at the northern end of the valley where it begins to break into the peninsula area headed toward San Francisco. For many years an agricultural area, it began to develop in the 1950s and 60s as a bedroom area for both the northern sprawl from Silicon Valley and the southern sprawl from San Francisco.
