Los Gatos Condos

Los Gatos is located in the southwestern section of the valley backed up into the Santa Cruz Mountains. Incorporated in 1887, Los Gatos is named for the Spanish land grant that covers it's area, which was, in turn, named for the mountain lions indigenous to the area at the time. Originally a mill and a center of logging, Los Gatos evolved into an agricultural area know for prunes, apricots and vineyards at the beginning of the 20th century and, beginning in the 1950s an upscale bedroom community.  

Los Gatos was one of the first Silicon Valley communities to build out, Pretty much having built out in the 1980s. It is a settled, somewhat rural, upscale community that features some older buildings dating from the 19th century through the 1920s, some of which have been converted to condominium loft space. Shopping is upscale and centered on the old downtown in buildings dating from the Victorian to the modern era and the Old Town Shopping Center carved into an old school established in 1882 and expanded until 1923. Backing up into the Santa Cruz Mountains along Highway 17 it has some mountain properties and is the Valley's gateway to the Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Cruz and the beach.
